You don’t have to tell any of us who live on the Treasure Coast just how fantastic it is... but groups in Indian River and St Lucie counties have come up with some creative ways to entice tourists to visit! First, we went to St. Lucie County. We spoke with...͞Charlotte Bireley Director of Tourism and Marketing for St. Lucie County͟Bireley is a Treasure Coast native. Earlier this summer, she and her team launched a grassroots program called SHARE YOUR ST. LUCIE. It rewards locals who promote the area to their out-of-town friends during the off-season time. This is when our hotels and our businesses need it most. ͞So, it is an action statement from the get-go. So, SHARE YOUR ST LUCIE – it has a very big social media component to it because we are asking people to share. So, every week what we do through social media and other communication channels we have a weekly prize that is available to local residents. And so our giveaway to a local resident is if you share this invitation with your friends and family to come and visit, you get put in the drawing to win this weekly prize.͟Prizes include hotel and restaurant packages, surfing and golf lessons, kayaking, and even horseback riding on the beach. There are still a few weeks left and it’s simple to enter to win. If you’re a regular on social media, just click on the SHARE YOUR ST LUCIE ads in your new feed and it takes you to their website where you fill out a short form. Click again to share the ͞invitation to visit you͟ with family and friends on your own social media page or by email. If you don’t see the ad, you can also just go directly to ShareYourStLucie.com. ͞We are really leveraging our locals and asking our locals to invite people here. And don’t have them stay with you – don’t do any of the work – have them stay at one of these hotels that have a great package!͟A little further up the road in Indian River County, the Cultural Council has a year-round Concierge service where the incentive to tourists and locals alike is the time and energy saved putting together customized cultural experiences. We sat down with...͞I am Barbara Hoffman and I am the executive director of the Cultural council of Indian River county.͟They started their Cultural Concierge service nearly 5 years ago. ͞And the purpose of that was for anybody who was visiting or planning to visit could connect with the Cultural concierge and we could help identify things to do while they are here. We even could recommend some restaurants. We could help them get tickets if it is a ticketed event they might like to attend. We give them as much literature as we possibly can and that all falls under this Cultural Concierge.͟TOC: ͞Do they tell you, I like Bluegrass, or I like Classical music, and then you customize it?͟ BH: ͞Yes, that happens sometimes. Sometimes it’s just I am going to be here in town for a week a month from now. What’s going on and what can we plan to do. Others will say, we are looking for a place to go that has these kinds of things and what does Indian River County offer.͟The service is free, except for a small charge to purchase tickets on your behalf. Originally created for tourism, residents can use it as well. Maybe you want to plan a fun weekend or a stay-cation? The Cultural Concierge is ready to help.
